A Day at DDS

Much of our program is seasonally based, meaning our program and schedule change in sync with the rhythms of our environment.

Autumn Day

7:45

Dropoffs begin.

9:00

Gear up for outside!  Walk to the park for free play.

10:30

Snack – homemade bread, raisins, water. When done,    children return to their play. If they wish, children may hunt for leaves to bring home for a wreath.

11:30

We walk home, singing all the way.

12:00

Claire washes the children’s hands; each child sets their place at the table.

12:30

Lunch – Barley soup with carrots and cabbage, broccoli with warm cheese, bread, and milk. When done, children clear their plates, wash hands, and prepare their nap spot.

1:30

Nap – early risers assist in the baking of bread for snack, help with chores. Children clean up their nap spot and are able to go outside when enough of their friends are awake.

3:00

Snack – homemade bread with butter made by the kids.

3:30

Leaf dipping: the leaves we collected early are dipped in beeswax and children assist adults in tying them to a wreath for our door.

4:00

Outdoor free play.

4:45

Together we begin to tidy up the house, singing work songs as we go.

Parents arrive.

Winter Day

7:45

Dropoffs begin; Claire meets children outside for a quick romp in the snow before we come in to read books.

9:00

Older kids head back outside to build snow forts outside.

9:45

Inside: children come together in a circle; we sing “The North Wind” and “This Little Light of Mine”,  read “Bear Snores On” while the baby naps in the crib.

10:00

Children take time to re-tell and act out the story.

10:30

Snack: clementines, homemade bread with nut butter, warm milk.

11:00

Indoor large muscle, like a dance party or jumping games.

12:00

Lunch – pearl barley and vegetable soup, biscuits, plums and milk. When done, children clear their plates, wash hands, and prepare their nap spot.

Nap – early risers assist in the baking of bread for snack, help with chores.  Children clean up their nap spot and can play quietly in the kitchen until their friends wake up.

Make butter for snack.

Work on projects that children can observe and imitate (wax modeling, writing letters).

4:45

Spring Day

7:45

Dropoffs start; we play in the front yard until all the kids arrive.

9:30

Music class with Lucy.

10:15

Snack inside: warm grain with maple syrup and dried fruits.

10:45

Free play.

11:45

Lunch -tomato soup with croutons, cheese, and peas.  When done, children clear their plates, wash hands, and prepare their nap spot.

12:45

Nap – early risers assist in the baking of bread for snack, help with chores.  Children clean up their nap spot and are able to go outside when enough of their friends are awake.

3:00

Snack – rhubarb muffins with milk.

3:30

Walk around the neighborhood; visit the ducks and chickens.

4:15

Outside free play.

Parents arrive.

 

SUMMer Day

7:45

Dropoffs begin; Claire meets children outside.

8:30

We walk to the park; children create their own games.

9:45

We walk home and prepare for snack, babies nap in cribs.

10:00

Snack on the deck: homemade yogurt with homemade granola, raspberries, milk.

10:30

The children play in the yard; we provide gardening chores for those who wish to work.

11:30

We gather in a circle in the yard and sing, “Mr. Sun”,        followed by a hide-and-seek game where we hide from him.

11:45

More outdoor free play.

12:45

Lunch – zucchini noodles with tomatoes, cheesy bread, watermelon, milk.

1:00

Nap – early risers assist in the baking of bread for snack, help with chores.  Children clean up their nap spot and are able to go outside when enough of their friends are awake.

3:00

Snack outside: cantaloupe, cheese, water.

3:30

Walk to the park.

5:00

Parents meet us at the park for pickup.
